Galerius, as Caesar, 293-305. Aureus (Gold, 19 mm, 5.28 g, 6 h), Antiochia, 299-302. MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES Laureate head of Galerius to right. Rev. IOVI CONS CAES ✱ / SMAZ Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding thunderbolt in his right hand and long scepter in his left; at feet to left, eagle standing left, head turned back to right; in field to left, star. Calicó 4910. Cohen 118. Depeyrot 16/4. RIC 25. Extremely rare. A attractive piece, boldly struck in high relief and with a monumental portrait. A few light scratches on the obverse and with minor scrapes and die rust on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
